秋から来年にかけての、バッハのゴルドベルグ変奏曲の演奏にむけて、準備のために、幾つか変奏曲を選んで、数回教会のミサで演奏しています。バッハの音楽を教会で演奏すると、３００年くらい前に作曲された作品を、元のところに戻してあげたような、気分に。つまり、とても素敵な気分なんです。音楽が、自然と教会の大きな建物に溶け込んでいく感じかなあ。ステンドグラスの美しい絵を見ながら、大きなスペースに音を満たしていくのは、自分で演奏しながら、その感動に浸ってしまいますね。音楽家としてやって来て、本当に良かった。ゴルドベルグを完成させるのは、大仕事だけど、毎日楽しく練習しています。音楽家としての、大きな挑戦であり、節目、そして喜びです。

先日聞いた、B’zの松本孝弘さんの言葉が忘れられない。松本さんは、今年２月、アメリカのグラミー賞でベストポップ・インスツルメンタル・アルバムで賞を取った、偉大なギタリスト・音楽家である。その他にも、音楽界での業績は図り知れない。言い換えれば、音楽界の大物。その彼に、今日の成功に導いた秘訣を聞いたテレビ・インタビューでの言葉。一語一句まで覚えていないが、こんな風に語っていたと思う。「運が良かったとか、才能があるとか、良く言われるけど、そういう事だけではない。１５歳の時にギターに出会えた事が幸せだった。そして今迄、自分に妥協せずに夢中になってやって来た事・・」そして、ある一日の光景がテレビに映し出された。リハーサルがキャンセルになった一日、松本さんはホテルの部屋に籠もって、ギターと向かい続けた。自分の納得の行くフレーズを求めて。お昼は、カップラーメンだけだった。 又、ある日、１２歳の少年の話がテレビであった。この少年、とても魅力的なのである。学校にも普通に行き、いろいろな事を無難にこなしているのであるが、一旦絵筆を取るとすべてを忘れる。彼の言葉。これも概略で。「テレビゲームとか、スポーツとかおもしろいけれど、ルールがあるから、すぐにあきちゃう。でも、絵の世界にはルールがないから、自由に遊べるから好き。」と言って、深夜まで、とても幻想的で素敵な絵を描いていた。絵を描いていると、時間を忘れているようだった。 こういう人達は、本当に幸せである。だって、本当に「好きなもの」は、そのきっかけは様々でも、自分の中から湧き出るもので、人が教えたり、世間の風潮で見つけられる訳ではないから。そして、それにトコトン夢中になれる才能も、誰からも教えられないのである。

最近読んでいる本の中から。多分、日本語にもそのうち訳されるかと思いますが、これは、Elizabeth Gilbertさんの”Eat, Pray, Love”からで、古代インドのヨガの賢者の言葉だそうです。「完璧でなくても、自分の運命に沿って生きる事は、他人の人生を真似して完璧に生きる事より、深い意義がある。」良い言葉でしょ。

This is a quote used in the book “Eat, Pray, Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert. She uses this quote in the words of The Bhagavad Gita, the ancient Indian Yogic text. “It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else’s life with perfection.” Bravo!
