少し前に、知人の１７歳の息子さんの話を書いた。彼は、ALS (筋萎縮性側索硬化症・きんいしゅくせいそくさくこうかしょう）と闘っている。この病気は、重篤な筋肉の収縮と筋力低下をおこす、きわめて進行の早い病いで、残念ながら、治療法は確立されていない。彼のように若年で発症するケースは大変まれで、通常発症から３－５年で呼吸器官の麻痺に至るところだが、２ヶ月前に緊急入院して症状はかなり進んでいる。そして最近の彼の様子を聞いた全く同じ日に、９９歳のお誕生日を祝う会があった。こちらは、９９歳の現在も、馬に乗り、毎日を元気に送っている男性である。かくしゃくとしている。老いていく見本のような人物である。人生は平等でない、と言ってしまうのは、簡単だ。そのどちらも、尊い大事な命なのだ。そして、どちらにも、生きて来た沢山の物語がある。この１７歳の息子さんのお宅、一階に引越し、人工呼吸器なども備え、息子さんが病院から帰れる方向で準備している。この息子さん、とても強いのである。ご両親は涙していても、本人は毅然としているのだ。残り少なくなってきた人生、家族に囲まれ（弟と妹がいる）、友人達に囲まれ、静かにそして平和な日々である事を祈るぐらいしか、私達には出来ない。

素晴らしい取り組みが沢山見られた、名古屋場所であった。魁皇の記録更新と引退、日馬富士の快挙、若手の台頭、など、場面場面で見せ場を作ってくれた。琴奨菊は残念であったが、手応えを離さず、是非来場所に繋げて欲しい。高見盛は、一挙に坂を転げ墜ちるような陥落ぶりで、見ていても、情けないというか、同情するというか、つまり、がっかりである。ここ数年、お決まりのガッツポーズと勝負後に下がっていく時のユーモラスな仕草で人気を引っ張って来たが、この辺でそろそろ次世代にバトンタッチかも。私の大好きな栃乃洋は、年齢的には多分最高齢の一人だが、一時の粘りはなくなったものの、相撲の勢いがあって、とても良かった。若の里も踏ん張りを見せた。時天空は、今や持ち味として評される足技を多く繰り出し、勝ちを伸ばした。しかし、私は足技の連発は好きではない。何だか、相撲気がないのである。相撲風情に欠けるのである。豊真将、豊ノ島の元気も、場所のハイライトであった。白鵬の８連覇はなくなったが、それに勝る様々なプラス要因があり、９月場所への期待を大きく膨らませてくれる。そして最後になるが、皆の注目、隆の山の活躍も、今後の大きな楽しみになった。久しぶりの相撲中継に、胸躍らせた１５日間であった。
