A Movie “Top Spin” 8/21/15
August 21, 2015
I saw “Top Spin” at Laemmle’s Preview Show in Pasadena. It is really fun! This documentary follows three young American table-tennis prodigies as they try to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. One of the three, a New Yorker named Michael Landers, started playing Ping Pong at the age of 2! He has been working very hard on this sport. The other two, Ariel Hsing and Lily Zhang, are Chinese-American girls from northern California and they have been best friends and longtime rivals. Ariel’s father quit his job to focus on Ariel’s achievement in Ping Pong. He is her full-time coach. The movie shows their lives at school with their friends, their on-line study (they skip school very often), their pets, mom-dad… If we work hard in music we may have something to make a living even though we may not be a first class performer. But as a Ping Pong player they don’t have a future as a professional player. It is because of their passion, dedication they play Ping Pong. I hope this movie will make it for a long run.
