LA Phil: Hollywood Bowl Concert with Narek Hakhnazaryan, cellist 7/10/15
July 10, 2015
If you live in LA, Hollywood Bowl in summer is very special. It is very pleasant in the evening there, and we often enjoy the picnic with friends before the concert. So I did everything in “Hollywood Bowl Summer Package” yesterday! The program (7/9/15) featured Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet Suite, Tchaikovsky: Rococo Variations with cellist, Narek Hakhnazaryan, a recent Tchaikovsky Competition gold winner, and finished with Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy. The perfect program for Bowl. My main interest on this program was to listen Narek Hakhanazaryan again. He is just amazing. Everything seemed so easy for him. One of great things at Bowl is that we can see the musicians in the huge screen. We can see their facial expression, fingers, and eye contact with a conductor. So it was very interesting to see how Hakhnazaryan plays. He offers everything, technique, lyricism, expression, and dynamic playing. He played an encore “Lamentation” to honor Armenian’s 100th year after the genocide, and it is a very effective piece. And the picnic with my dear friends was also the highlight.
