7th performance of J. S. Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” BWV 988 in Santa Rosa, CA 10/24/13

October 24, 2013

I finished my 7th performance of J. S. Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” on Sat. October 12. I have been living with “Goldberg” for a while. When I started to learn this piece, I still remember I was both very nervous and excited. I never had performed this kind of work in my life. I grew up listening many recordings of Goldberg, and finally it was my turn to learn. During the daily practice, I progressed little by little. I made a plan to study and practice for several variations per week. Then I performed portions of an entire work for several occasions, and in 9 months I had a first concert to perform “Goldberg” by memory in front of the audience. And each 7 performance gave me a new and different perspective. Here I am. I have done 7 Goldberg journeys. First of all, I appreciate all the concert venues and precious people who gave me opportunities to perform Goldberg. My Goldberg journey is in break til the next time.
