Christian Zacharias, Chamber Music and LA Phil Concert 11/3/10
November 3, 2010
I went to listen 2 concerts on 10/26 and 10/29 at Disney Concert Hall. Christian Zacarias played Trout Piano Quintet by Schubert with LA Phil musicians, and played/conducted C. P. E. Bach Keyboard Concerto in D Minor with LA Phil. He is trully a refined pianist/conductor. His piano playing in classic style is superb, beautiful tone, sensitive phrasing, and has just right amount of liberty! Of course Trout Quintet is one of the most performed chamber music pieces, but C. P. E. Bach was entirely new to me. My confession! (I went to the good music schools!) Iknow his cello concerto and other pieces so if I did not know the name of the piece I may guessed who would be the composer. It sounded really C.P.E.! On the orchestra concert Susan Graham sang Mozart “Ch’io mi scordi di te?” K. 505, and it was just beautiful. She has an amazing voice, and her Mozart was so clean, stylish, expressive, —. I was convinced why she is so in demand!
