Piano Studio Recital at Occidental College 12/8/09
December 8, 2009
We had a piano studio recital at Occidental College last night, and I was so happy to hear everyone playing wonderfully! I have 16 students this semester, and I enjoy working with each student, and seeing their progress. Occidental College is a liberal arts college, not a conservatory. So music study is not competitive. It is to express and to explore for their own goals and purposes, or simply for their love of music. I have some music performance majors too. Studio recital program was diverse, from classic composers to jazz and pop music. One of students even sang and played piano. She has a beautiful voice. Compare to my conservatory education, an performing arts high school, B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. in piano performance, the students at Occidental College have chance to explore many areas during their 4 years at the college. We have a wonderful “Study Abroad Program” as well. Some of my students have gone to abroad for a semester or a year. It is very rewarding to teach students at Occidental College for a broader view.
